In the Embrace of Forest Silence

Sometimes all it takes is to cross the street, say “abracadabra,” and suddenly you’re stepping into the forest. My faithful companion, Luna, catches a scent and starts tugging at my hand with eager impatience. At the entrance, I unclip her leash, and freedom takes over. I know she won’t run off, so I follow her into the cool shade of the trees. I love it. My feet carry me almost on their own. Luna joyfully frolics like a little deer—this bush, that stick, then rolling around in the grass. Pure madness. The views take my breath away. And as if that weren’t enough, the birdsong sends shivers down my spine. It’s probably the most beautiful song in the world. In moments like these, you just know it’s true.

We’re approaching one of my favorite spots for quiet reflection—a natural terrace in the heart of the forest, carpeted with fallen tree trunks. I usually sit on one at the top, where the view opens up to endless forests, mountains, and valleys. High above, hawks circle gracefully. But the intense heat pushes us back into the shade. Thankfully, especially for Luna, my sweet black Cane Corso, who feels the heat the most.

The path leads us on to another peaceful resting place. We weave through bushes, trees, and stones, and I stumble over charming roots poking out of the ground. I’ve learned this little dance well enough now to avoid falling. The gentle breeze teases me, and Luna just rolls her eyes. Perfect—I laugh quietly to myself. On the way, I greet Mr. Tuft. Let me explain: it’s a tiny clump of moss growing on a tree trunk so adorable I named it Mr. Tuft.

More twists in the path bring us to a cool spot of calm. This is where the softest grass and moss grow—like a Persian carpet under bare feet, soothing and tender. Here, the birdsong feels like a symphony, filling the forest’s vastness. Blissful peace seeps deep into my body, touching my very soul. The scent of trees, grass, and earth completes the perfect feeling of happiness and relaxation.

I am home.

Just me, Luna, and the forest.

Here and now.

Time stands still.

Only the wind has a voice now—shhhh, shhhh, shhhh.
